Goals:
Strategies:
We decided collectively to use new communication technologies, which are currently indispensable in the culture industry, to present, disseminate and safeguard the artistic work of musicians who seek their lives by playing the traditional music of their region.
As a pilot experience of the project, we made a series of video recordings and interviews, with artists who interpret or compose traditional Mexican music and who are at a disadvantage both socially and economically, for which they have had to resort to playing in the street to Offer their artistic services.
These works were disseminated on the web through our website, a blog, on social networks, and on YouTube.
Results:
With this initiative, CaminArt has supported artists who seek to spread the music of their region, promote the appreciation of local artistic expressions and awaken the interest of the new generations to continue and preserve our cultural heritage.
We have recorded three artistic groups and a soloist from Alvarado and Tlacotalpan in Veracruz, from the Costa Grande and Tierra Caliente in Guerrero and from Morelia, Michoacán. One of our videos has accumulated more than 65,000 hits on YouTube in a year and everyone has remained active. It should be noted that among the comments received there are thanks and congratulations from those who have found, through our videos, emblematic characters of their communities, which had never been recorded.
The videos, recordings and interviews we present promote these teachers of the tradition who are in a situation of exclusion, put up with the arduous and hard work they develop to keep alive the different traditions of our country and develop an artistic network of cultural solidarity For the dissemination and preservation of the richness provided by cultural diversity.
On the other hand they motivate the new generations to conserve their traditions, creating contact between old and young, reinforcing the feeling of belonging and identity.
It is important to emphasize that with their participation they are already exercising the right to express themselves culturally and to be heard. In using the new technologies, this pilot project has demonstrated its communicative potential for the promotion of these artists that are bastions of our intangible cultural heritage.
